The noise from good toast should reverberate in the head like the thunder of July.

– The ‘sound of good toast’ must be so clear and powerful that it ‘keeps echoing in your head’.
– The comparison “like the thunder of July” means: ‘like the thundering summer thunderstorm’—thus: loud, impressive, almost exaggerated.
Origin 📚:
– The quote comes from Lucas’ essay “When Toasters Disagree” (1906).
– Later, it was also included in the collection “Fireside and Sunshine”.
– Source of this edition: “Fireside and Sunshine”, p. 18 (Read Books Ltd, 2014).
