Publilius Syrus

Publilius Syrus:

Roman writer from the 1st century BC. As his name betrays, he was from Syria. He ended up in Italy as a slave. Both his wit and intelligence and his handsome appearance won him the favour of his patronus at Rome, who granted him freedom and a good education.
