I’m only wishing to go a-fishing. For this, the month of May was made.

The first day of spring is one thing, and the first spring day is another. The difference between them is sometimes as great as a month.

Meaning 🌳: The saying emphasises the distinction between astronomical spring and meteorological or sensory spring. The first day of spring: This refers to the beginning of astronomical spring, which falls around 20 or 21 March each year (the spring equinox). This is a fixed moment on the calendar, determined by the position of the Earth relative to the Sun. The first day of spring: This refers to the day when you actually begin to experience the characteristics of spring. Think of warmer weather, blooming flowers, budding trees, longer daylight hours and a general feeling of “new beginnings”. This can be much earlier or later than the astronomical start of spring, depending on the weather and the region. Sometimes you have beautiful spring days as early as February, and sometimes winter drags on well into April. In short, the saying acknowledges that the calendar does not always correspond to the reality of nature and the seasons as we experience them. Origin and Author ✒️: Henry van Dyke. Henry van Dyke (1852 – 1933) was an American author, educator and clergyman. He wrote many poems, essays and short stories, often on the themes of nature and morality. This quote fits perfectly with his style and his observations of life and nature. Although it is difficult to determine the exact publication date
