Sometimes words need music too. Sometimes the descriptions are not enough. Books should be written with soundtracks, like films.

‘Words can evoke a lot’, but sometimes descriptions fall short.
‘Music can convey emotions, atmosphere, and tension more directly’ than language alone.
– Just as films use music to intensify a scene, according to this idea, books would sometimes need a “soundtrack” too.
In short:
> ‘Some scenes, feelings, or worlds are so musical or emotional that text alone does not seem enough.’
Author:  Sir Terry Pratchett — 1948–2015 — British fantasy and satirical writer, best known for the “Discworld” books.
His work combines humor, philosophy, social criticism, and wordplay.
📚 Origin:
It comes from his Discworld novel “Soul Music” from 1994.
It is therefore not an old proverb, but a literary, almost ma-fictional remark about reading, atmosphere, and music.
“Soul Music” is a Discworld novel in which music takes center stage — primarily as a parody of rock ’n’ roll, pop culture, and the almost magical power of music. Therefore, this statement fits the content of that book very well.
⚠️ Note:
The sentence often circulates online as a quote from Pratchett, usually linked to “Soul Music”. Pages may vary by edition and translation. If you wish to cite it academically or officially, it is advisable to check the exact passage in your edition of “Soul Music”.
