George Eliot

Mary Anne Evans:

(Nuneaton, 22 November 1819 – London, 22 December 1880), known by her pen name George Eliot, was an English writer and poet. She was also a journalist and translator. She is counted among the most important writers of the Victorian era.

Evans wrote seven novels: Adam Bede (1859), The Mill on the Floss (1860), Silas Marner (1861), Romola (1862-1863), Felix Holt, the Radical (1866), Middlemarch (1871-1872) and Daniel Deronda (1876). Her novels are known for their realism, psychological depth and sharp character dissection. Like her contemporaries Charles Dickens and Thomas Hardy, her background was in provincial England (the rural Midlands). Many of her works are set here.

Lovely autumn! My soul is wedded to it.

Isn’t this a real autumn day? Exactly the quiet melancholy I love – bringing life and nature into harmony.
