Nelson Algren:
(Detroit, March 28, 1909 – Sag Harbor, New York, May 9, 1981). American writer.
He was the first to win the National Book Award for his book The Man with the Golden Arm. It was adapted into a film in 1955 by Otto Preminger, starring Frank Sinatra.
Algren had an affair with the French author Simone de Beauvoir.
