Jerry Orbach

Jerry Orbach:

(New York, 20 October 1935 – Manhattan, New York, 28 December 2004) was an American actor.

Orbach played on a football team in his youth. Later, he worked at the Chevy Chase Country Club. His most famous work was for the television series Law & Order. Orbach played the role of Detective Lennie Briscoe in the series for twelve seasons. He also appeared in Broadway productions. He won a Tony Award for his performance in Promises Promises. He also starred in films such as Dirty Dancing, Beauty and the Beast and Crimes and Misdemeanors. In 1963, the LP ‘Jerry Orbach- Off Broadway’ was released.

During the filming of the episode 41 Shots for the series Law & Order: Trial by Jury, Orbach was already so ill that he could only whisper. Certain scenes were therefore rewritten to justify the whispering.

He died of prostate cancer at the age of 69. He was married to musical actress Elaine Cancilla Orbach.
