John Barrowman:
(Glasgow, 11 March 1967).
Scottish (musical) actor, dancer, singer and television presenter who has worked in the UK and the US. He speaks English with an American accent because his family moved to Illinois when he was nine years old.
He is best known for his television work in the UK, particularly his role as captain Jack Harkness in Doctor Who and the spin-off Torchwood. He has also participated in programmes such as Any Dream Will Do and How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria, which sought new musical stars.
In 2006, he was voted “Entertainer of the Year” by gay rights organisation Stonewall[ and was third in Broadcast Magazine’s “Hottest Commodity” poll in November 2006.
