Jacque Fresco

Jacque Fresco:

(Brooklyn, March 13, 1916 – Sebring, Florida, May 18, 2017). American industrial designer, author, inventor, futurologist and founder of The Venus Project.

He started his professional career as a design consultant for Rotor Craft Helicopter Company. He served in the Army at the Design and Development Unit at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, United States, and worked for the Raymond De-Icer Corporation as a research engineer.

In later years he advocated, among other things, an economy based on raw materials.

The advancement of technology could make more resources available to more people, eliminating corruption and greed and instead giving people more opportunity to help each other.

PEOPLE do not need to be governed and do not require leaders unless they are IGNORANT, CAPTIVE, WAGE SLAVES, or SUBJECT to a DICTATOR.

Photo: Sander Sammy.   Meaning:  The statement argues that government and political authority are not natural human needs — they are responses to conditions of weakness, dependency, and oppression. A person who is educated, free, and economically independent has no need for rulers. The four conditions named — ignorance, captivity, wage slavery, and subjection to a dictator — are not justifications for government; they are indictments of it. Remove those conditions, and the need for rulers disappears entirely.
Origin:
The quote originates with Jacque Fresco and reflects the core of his life’s philosophy: that scarcity, ignorance, and economic dependency are the true foundations of political control, and that a scientifically advanced, resource-abundant society would naturally outgrow the need for governance. It is consistent with his broader body of work promoting a resource-based economy through The Venus Project.
Author:
Jacque Fresco (March 13, 1916 – May 18, 2017) was an American futurist, self-taught engineer, industrial designer, and social thinker. He founded The Venus Project, proposing a global socio-economic system based on sustainability, technology, and the elimination of scarcity and money. He communicated his vision through books, films, and lectures in over 25 countries across a career spanning more than seven decades, and died at the age of 101.
