Elizabeth Dorothea Cole Bowen:
(Dublin, June 7, 1899 – London, February 22, 1973).
Irish-English writer of novels and short stories.
Bowen was born in Dublin, but moved to England with her mother at age seven (after her father became mentally ill) and grew up in Hythe, Kent. She later studied for a time at the London Academy of Fine Arts, where she discovered her talent lay in writing. In 1923, she made her debut with the short story collection, Encounters.
