Robert Hall Weir:
(born as on 16 October 1947)
Iconic American musician, best known as a founding member of the legendary rock band Grateful Dead.
He joined the Grateful Dead in 1965 when he was only 17 years old.
First he was a member of ‘Mother McCree’s Uptown Jug Champions’ along with Jerry Garcia in 1964, and then co-founded the Warlocks, which later became the Grateful Dead. As the band grew, he became co-lead singer along with Garcia and developed into one of rock’s best and most distinctive rhythm guitarists.
After the break-up of the Grateful Dead in 1995, Weir actively performed in several revivals: He participated in several re-formations of Grateful Dead members, including stints as the Other Ones in 1998, 2000 and 2002, and as The Dead in 2003, 2004 and 2009.
Weir remains active as a musician and is considered ‘the guardian of the Grateful Dead’s legacy’. He is involved in several projects including Dead & Company, Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros, and other formations.
The Grateful Dead received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and appeared on Forbes’ list of best-earning artists, underscoring Weir’s lasting impact on the music world.
