Sherman Alexie

Sherman Alexie Joseph, Jr.:

(Wellpinit, Washington, 7 October 1966).
American poet, writer and filmmaker who writes about race and politics in a sharp, taboo-free style. Many of his texts are based on his experiences as a Native American; as a Spokane–Coeur d’Alene Indian, he grew up on the Spokane Indian Reservation. Alexie lives in Seattle.

As a Spokane–Coeur d’Alene Indian, Sherman Alexie is perhaps the most popular and prestigious Native American writer in the United States. He is better known and more influential than other Native American writers because he writes in a number of different genres and publishes widely, makes films and often appears on television programmes as a commentator.

If you let people into your life a little bit, they can be pretty damn amazing.

Photo by Elevate. Meaning: The phrase encourages you to let others into your life – in moderation. Letting them in “a little” does not mean closing yourself off completely, but rather not being afraid of connection. This openness allows you to experience how valuable and inspiring other people can be. There are risks in allowing closeness (vulnerability), but the rewards – meaningful friendships, love, support – can be worth the risk. It can also be seen as a plea for personal growth through relationships: by allowing others in, you develop yourself, learn trust, empathy, and the importance of reciprocity.
