Mary Wollstonecraft:
(Hoxton (now London), 27 April 1759 – London, 10 September 1797).
English writer and advocate for women’s rights. In 1792, her pamphlet A Vindication of the Rights of Woman was published. Alongside Olympe de Gouges’ Déclaration des Droits de la Femme et de la Citoyenne, this pamphlet is often considered one of the first feminist works and helped pave the way for the widespread use of the term “women’s rights”. Mary Wollstonecraft is the mother of Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin, better known as Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein (The Modern Prometheus).
