Charles Eastman

Charles Alexander Eastman:

(1858-1939)                                                                                                                                                 Also known as Ohiyesa, was a Dakota author, physician, and political reformer who documented the history of the Sioux from a personal perspective. Born in Minnesota, he later moved to Canada, where he was given the name Ohiyesa after a lacrosse victory. Eastman became a prominent figure in both Native American and Euro-American society and made significant contributions to literature and indigenous rights.

We believe profoundly in silence-the sign of a perfect equilibrium. Silence is the absolute poise or balance of body, mind, and spirit.

Dakota Sioux tipi Photo: Native American Journey. Meaning: Silence is not emptiness, but rather the richest form of being – a state in which all parts of yourself work together instead of fighting each other. Origin: A profound spiritual concept from Dakota culture.
