Leonard Peltier

Leonard Peltier:

(Grand Forks, 12 September 1944).
American Indian activist.

Peltier, a Lakota/Ojibwe Indian and member of the American Indian Movement, has been imprisoned since 1977. He was sentenced to two life sentences on charges of murdering two FBI agents. Peltier himself has always declared his innocence. Amnesty International considers him a political prisoner. In January 2025, President Joe Biden granted Peltier a last-minute sentence reduction. He will be allowed to serve the rest of his life sentence at home.

I don’t know how to save the world. I don’t have the answer. I hold no secret knowledge as to how to fix the mistakes of generations past and present. I only know that without compassion and respect for all of Earth’s inhabitants, none of us wil survive – nor will we deserve to.
