Ignacio Manuel Altamirano:
(Tixtla, 13 November 1834 – San Remo, 13 February 1893).
Mexican writer and politician.
Altamirano was a full-blooded Nahua Indian from the state of Guerrero, and did not learn Spanish until he was 14. When his father became mayor of his hometown of Tixtla, Altamirano was given the opportunity to study. He received a scholarship from Ignacio Ramírez who became his teacher and went to study in Toluca.

To suffer for freedom is to walk through a path with thistles that turn into roses only when one has already passed them.
