Isadora Duncan

Isadora Duncan:

Born Angela Isadora Duncan.
(San Francisco, 26 May 1877 – Nice, 14 September 1927).
American dancer. She is considered one of the founding fathers of modern dance. From the age of 22, she lived in Western Europe and the Soviet Union. As a child, she already rejected classical ballet. She developed her own style, and was the first to convert classical music into dance. She first performed in Chicago and New York, but her big break came in Europe. After performing in Budapest and London, she travelled to Paris, Berlin, and Moscow, before returning to Paris. She toured half of Europe and performed in the metropolises of North and South America. From 1909, she had her own dance school in Paris. She inspired other artists, and when the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées was built in 1913, she was depicted in a relief by sculptor Émile-Antoine Bourdelle, and by painter Maurice Denis who included her in a mural.
