Eduardo Hughes Galeano:
(Montevideo, 3 September 1940 – there, 13 April 2015). Uruguayan journalist and writer. His best-known works are The bloodletting of a continent (Las venas abiertas de América Latina, 1971) and Chronicle of fire (Memoria del fuego, 1986). In his books, Galeano combined fiction, journalism, political analysis and historiography. He was an outspoken critic of globalisation because of its effects on the less fortunate. He was a celebrity in Latin America and, at his death, newspapers described him as one of the continent’s leading anti-capitalist voices.

We live in a world where the funeral matters more than the dead, the wedding more than love and the physical rather than the intellect. We live in the container culture, which despises the content.
