Jacques Romain Georges Brel:
(Schaerbeek, 8 April 1929 – Bobigny, 9 October1978).
Belgian singer, composer and lyricist who became an international celebrity in the early 1960s. After retiring from the stage in 1967, he was active for some time as a film actor and director. During the most important part of his career, he worked intensively with composers François Rauber and Gérard Jouannest. The Brussels-based Brel considered himself a French-speaking Fleming.
