American actress. She played mothers in numerous television series. She rose to fame playing Michelle in the film Sister Act. She has since appeared in several films with Whoopi Goldberg.
She also appeared in the series A Different World, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Friends, Black-ish, and had a role in Strong Medicine. For her television work, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2022.
