Heinrich Heine

Christian Johann Heinrich Heine:

(Düsseldorf, 13 December 1797 – Paris, 17 February 1856).
German poet of Jewish descent. He was born Harry Heine, but was baptised Lutheran in 1825 under the name Heinrich Heine. In 1824, he returned to Göttingen to earn his doctorate in law and where he joined the student society Corps Guestphalia, which appeared several times in his works. A more inner connection to the faith, however, did not occur to him until the end of his life, when he lay paralysed on his sickbed in Paris, where he had lived in self-imposed exile since 1831. He is buried in the Montmartre cemetery.

In the marvelous month of May, when all the buds were bursting, then in my heart did love arise. In the marvelous month of May, when all the birds were singing, then did I reveal to her my yearning and longing.

Phot by Jonathan Borba

Sweet May hath come to love us, flowers, trees, their blossoms don. And through the blue heavens above us, the very clouds move on.
