Voltaire:

Pseudonym of François Marie Arouet.
( Paris, 21 November 1694 – there, 30 May 1778 )
French writer, essayist, philosopher and freethinker. He can be considered the prominent pioneer of the French Enlightenment. As a writer, Voltaire had a great influence on the intellectual life of his time. Goethe argued that Voltaire was the instigator of the French Revolution because he is said to have loosened the old bonds of humanity.
