Erasmus:
Pseudonym Desiderius Erasmus and with a loconym Erasmus Roterodamus (Rotterdam, 28 October 1466,1467 or 1469 – Basel, 12 July 1536).
Dutch humanist, Catholic theologian, philosopher, philologist and educator. He is considered one of the most influential thinkers of the Northern Renaissance. He was a priest and Augustinian canon who, in his own moderate way, tried to reform the Catholic Church from within against the backdrop of an emerging Reformation, which was resented by both camps.
