Wertheimer, Emanuel:
Born in Budapest on 10 May 1846.
Attended secondary school there, studied philosophy and art history in Vienna, was very interested in music, but especially in literature. In 1880 he moved to Berlin. Features, criticism, drama, aphorisms. Main works: ‘Cromwell’, tragedy in five acts, Leipzig 1876; ‘Pensées et Maximes’, with a preface by François Coppée, Paris, Ollendorff, 1895, third edition in preparation. ‘Aphorismen, Gedanken und Meinungen’, Stuttgart, Deutsche Verlagsanstalt 1897.
Lasting friendship is based on renouncing mutual help.
