Ferdinand Lassalle:
(Breslau, 11 April 1825 – Geneva, 31 August 1864).
German socialist theorist and politician. He was the founder in 1863 of the Allgemeiner Deutscher Arbeiterverein (ADAV), one of the forerunners of the SPD. According to Lassalle, poverty is caused by the iron wage law. The iron wage law could only be lifted by establishing production cooperatives through state support. ADAV’s main programme point was the introduction of universal suffrage so that the plan of state credit for cooperatives could be realised.
What socialism wants is not to abolish property, but on the contrary to introduce individual property, property based on labor.
In a state, the individual is not only there for himself, he is also there for everyone; it is his task to protect the legal freedom of all, it is his duty to protect the moral foundation of the state against violence.
