(nickname: Kees) (Dordrecht, 7 August 1918 – there, 24 November 1985) was a Dutch poet, prose writer and translator. He also re-translated Leendert Burgersdijk’s 19th-century translation of William Shakespeare’s plays, as well as several other classical works. He owes his fame mainly to his poems, including ‘De blauwbilgorgel’ (1942) and ‘Pluk de dag’ (1966), the story ‘Daar ga je, Deibel!’ (1975) and his published collections of quotations and aphorisms.
