Alexis-Charles-Henri Clérel:
Viscount de Tocqueville.
(Verneuil-sur-Seine, 29 July 1805 – Cannes, 16 April 1859).
French aristocrat, political philosopher and sociologist, historian and statesman. He is considered an important thinker of modern political liberalism.

I hope to see the day when the law guarantees equal civil liberty to all inhabitants of the same empire.

Liberty cannot be established without morality, nor morality without faith.

The despots themselves do not deny that freedom is excellent; only they want it only for themselves, and they maintain that others are completely unworthy of it.
